My Adventure Through Grade 11 English

I've learned a multitude of different skills throughout my grade 11 English journey. I am much better at breaking down and analyzing pieces of writing compared to how I was in grade 10. My creative writing skills have become much more rich and my ability to create a character is much stronger than before.

My greatest skill is my ability to adapt writing from other authors. Being able to analyze the methods other authors use in their writing is incredibly helpful when trying to understand the message they are trying to convey. Being able to take the methods they've used and reproduce them in my own way in my writing is evidence that I have a thorough understanding of the message the author is trying to get across.

No matter what field someone goes into English plays some sort of roll. Being able to communicate efficiently and effectively is very key in many aspects of life and ENG3U is just one of the many stepping stones in learning how to do this.

Here are some of my greatest accomplishments:

I believe that this piece of writing is the best example of my creative writing skills. I translated multiple language and structure methods used from the original author of the story into my own writing in an effective manor. The story I produced followed the same timeline as the original writing with my own special touch added on top.

This is another piece of creative writing that I produced during ENG3U. This piece is slightly different from the last as I adapted trends from a time period into a piece of creative writing instead of methods used by an author. This is an incredibly important skill no just for subjects like history but being able to withdraw information from a source and apply it and reproduce it into something of your own is a very helpful skill in almost all subjects.

I believe this is the best example of my analytical writing skills. I interpreted methods from both the poem I Am and The Night Is Darkening Round Me. They were written by authors in a similar time period who used similar methods to convey the struggles they were going through in life. I analyzed multiple structure and language features from each of the poems in great depth and detail.

This was one of the first assignments I believe I truly started to understand how to properly analyze a creative text and extract the methods used. My ability to analyze a specific characters point of view was quite strong in this piece of writing as well as my ability to consider the context of the book and how it may have affected the characters.

Another one of the skills I developed throughout ENG3U was my ability to analyze review writing and critique them. I believe this piece of writing is my best example of review analysis from this year. I used information from the review to figure out who the target audience should be and how well the language and word choice the writer used applies to the audience. I also discussed what the purpose of the review was and went in depth about how well the author of the review has written the article to satisfy its purpose.

Website Reflection

This website is an archive of all of my writing since the beginning of Grade 9 English. I want people to read through my writing and appreciate how I have grown as a writer and how my English skills have drastically improved over the course of the last 3 years. My growing ability to analyze different types of writing and methods used throughout them is evident throughout the timeline of my writing. My creative writing has also adapted a lot throughout the last 3 years and my utilization of literary devices has become much more complex which is visible in my different adaptations from novels we've read over the years.
